From the preface: "This book presents the exhaustive survey of the available literature on violence. Violence is multi-dimensional and complex in nature. In every walk of life we find the presence of violence. It ranges from agrarian violence to caste and class violence, electoral violence to political violence, communal violence to ethnic violence, family and women violence to social violence, student violence to trade union violence, Naxalite violence to terrorist violence, etc. No one can escape the realization that we are living through one of the greatest crises of civilization characterized by increasing vicarious violence and terror. This expression is found both in thought and action, particularly among the younger generation." [Ramesh Pandit is at present associated with A.N.S. Institute of Social Studies, Patna.
