The two books of the Violinist's First Solo Album consist of time honored and carefully graded compositions arranged in progressive order. These compositions are alive today by consent of the students and teachers of the past who have said, They are suited to their purpose and will aid in the education of the serious growth and they cut a straight line in the time-saving inculcation of violinistic principles. There is no overlapping, for each composition has a specific technical and musical task to perform. Book One contains a progressive series of melodious first position pieces in which simplicity and clarit of presentation has been the watchword in the choice of material. Fundamental rhythms and bowings, together with clear-cut left hand usages are presented to the student for his/her enjoyment and edification. There must be joy in learning for otherwise practice becomes but dutiful drugery and then the musical spirit dies. Without it, there can only be developed violinistic zombies. Book Two carries forward in somewhat more involved fashion all the fundamental of Book One, musically and technically, so that the teacher may feel safe in proceedings from one to the other. Not only will be, by this procedure, enhance the already sound growth of his student's ability, but he will safely ensconce the student on the new pathway, for the first few numbers of Book Two are, in essence, a slight going back to a less evolved violinistic aspect before the drive forward toward more advanced principles.
