On the Vision of God (De Visione Dei) (Latin-English Edition)

On the Vision of God (De Visione Dei) is one of Nicholas of Cusa’s most profound works—a meditation on the mystery of the divine as the infinite horizon of all human knowing. Written in 1453 for the monks of Tegernsee Abbey, this short treatise unfolds in the form of a spiritual exercise, centered on the paradox that God is “seen” only when it is recognized that He surpasses all seeing.

In this new bilingual edition, the critical Latin text of Adelaida Dorothea Riemann is presented alongside Jasper Hopkins’ elegant and accessible English translation, making it ideal for scholars, students, and general readers alike. The text is carefully typeset in a facing-page format, allowing readers to follow Nicholas’s original words while engaging with the translation.

Features include:

• The definitive Latin text based on Riemann’s critical edition
• Jasper Hopkins’ authoritative translation, renowned for its accuracy and clarity
• A clean, readable layout designed for both study and contemplation
• Durable, high-quality binding for years of use

This volume will serve equally well as a tool for rigorous academic study and as a companion for personal spiritual reflection.
