About this title

Synopsis

The Vision of Judgment is a poem written by an anonymous noble author in 1822. The poem is a satirical critique of the Church of England and its clergy, as well as a commentary on the nature of divine judgment. The poem is divided into three parts, each of which explores a different aspect of the author's vision of judgment. In the first part, the author describes a vision of the Last Judgment, in which the souls of the dead are called to account for their sins. The author portrays the judgment as a chaotic and disorganized event, with souls being judged based on arbitrary criteria and the judgment being influenced by political and social factors. In the second part of the poem, the author turns his attention to the clergy of the Church of England, whom he portrays as corrupt and hypocritical. The author criticizes the clergy for their greed, their lack of compassion, and their tendency to put their own interests ahead of those of their congregations. In the final part of the poem, the author offers a vision of a more just and equitable judgment, in which the souls of the dead are judged based on their deeds and their character rather than on their social status or their connections. The author argues that this vision of judgment is more in line with the teachings of Jesus Christ and represents a more just and equitable system of divine judgment.Overall, The Vision of Judgment is a powerful critique of the Church of England and its clergy, as well as a commentary on the nature of divine judgment and the role of religion in society. The poem remains a powerful and influential work of English literature to this day. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
