Virtue & Co., 1890, FIRST EDITION, green cloth, 374 pp., folding maps (largest map has 7" tear encroaching somewhat into the image, b&w illustrations by Mr. Melton Prior, ex-library copy with the usual labels, blind stamps and markings, several sections sprung from the binding, last few pp. have water stains with the last two pp. of the book (Appendix) effecting much of the text (though readable), worn copy. This is not a pretty copy but the title is quite scarce; restoration is a viable option. Russell was the first embedded newspaper reporter in a war - serving the Times of London in the Crimean War.
