Full green morocco, with gilt and blind stamped decoration to upper and lower covers, spine with gilt-ruled raised bands, and gilt titles and decoration to compartments, inner dentelles gilt, light blue coated endpapers, all edges gilt. Engraved book plate to front pastedown. Neat ownership inscription in black ink to list of plates. 15 engravings, 14 of which are full page and 13 of which are hand coloured. Binding a little worn at extremities. Generally a very good, clean copy. Apart from being an antiquarian and romantic traveller, Fellowes (1769 - 1852) observed details of the French social life during the recent political system changes, from absolute monarchy, to republic, Napoleonic Empire and back to the attempt to recreate an absolute monarchy. A second edition of the present work was published by Stockdale in the year, a third edition was published by Thomas McLean in 1820, and a fourth in 1823 (Abbey). (Abbey Travel, 86; Tooley, 212).
