Visitbritain Stately Service Then and Now

Written in a lively style and illustrated with archive material and specially-shot
photography, Stately Service will open the present-day visitor’s eyes to how the life and management of an historic house have changed over the years, giving them a first-hand insight from owners and staff, then and now.

Britain’s historic houses have grown accustomed to adapting to change, particularly in the concept of service. The dozens of servants employed a century ago have been drastically reduced and owners nowadays work hard to maintain their historic homes, aided by a handful of enthusiastic and dedicated staff.

Drawing on archive material, personal anecdote from present owners and their
staff and featuring inspiring photographs and line drawings, Stately Service describes the many inspiring and creative ways in which historic houses have changed to become successful businesses and providers in the ?ultimate service industry’.

Stately Service Then and Now is part of a completely new series published by
VisitBritain Publishing in association with the Historic Houses Association.
