Oversized and richly printed in tritone, this book presents, in four carefully edited "movements," classical photographs of the landscape, English cathedrals, urban architecture, and the Southwest's amazing slit canyons. In an introduction to each section, Birnbarum suggests musical corollaries for his subjects. His prose doesn't sing, but never mind; the photographs more than speak for themselves.
