Her current research uses video and ethnographic methods to understand how donor human milk is used in neonatal intensive care units in Australia and the United States. Rick Iedema PhD, USyd is Research Professor and Director of the Centre for Health Communication at the University of Technology, Sydney. He is also Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences of Australia and Associate Editor of the journal Health Expectations. Rick's research investigates the rising complexity of health service provision. Jessica Mesman PhD holds a senior position at the Department of Science and Technology Studies at Maastricht University. Her book Uncertainty in Medical Innovation: Experienced Pioneers in Neonatal Care won the Sociology of Health and Illness Best Book of the Year 2009 Award. Jessica's research applies a science and technology studies approach to patient safety in, among others, intensive care and neonatology, and to decision- making processes in critical care medicine.
