Vocation of a Gadfly (Hardback or Cased Book)

Some battles are fought in boardrooms. Others are fought on one's knees.

Answering a calling is one thing. Remaining faithful to it is another.

Peter Reinold believed that chapter of his life had been closed forever.

Years of quiet fidelity had patiently shaped him into the man he had become. The ambitions of his former life had long since been surrendered. The promises had been made. Peace had finally been found.

Then tragedy calls him home.

When a devastating accident leaves his brother fighting for life and his family's international shipping empire facing an uncertain future, Peter returns to the world he believed he had left behind. He tells himself it is only for a season-long enough to steady his inexperienced younger sister, fulfil a duty born of love, and quietly return to the vocation that has become the very foundation of his life.

But some doors never close as completely as we imagine.

Old friendships. Old responsibilities. Old affections. None of them is evil. Each is worthy. Each asks something of him. Each reminds him of a life that might have been.

Then another plea for help arrives.

A gravely ill young woman has become the centre of a terrifying mystery that medicine cannot explain. As Peter confronts an ancient enemy armed only with faith, prayer and years of spiritual experience, he discovers that the fiercest battles are seldom fought before the eyes of the world...

...they are fought within the human heart.

When every path leads toward something worthy of love, how does a man remain faithful to the highest good? And what becomes of him when every lesser good pleads to be chosen first?

Vocation of a Gadfly, the second novel in The Gadfly Saga, is a literary novel exploring fidelity, sacrifice and the enduring cost of promises made for life-revealing that the greatest battles are rarely fought against evil alone, but within the struggle to love what is highest above all that is merely good.

Born in Carson City, Nevada, E.A. Bucchianeri spent her early years in nearby Virginia City, the legendary mining town made famous by Mark Twain, the Comstock Lode, and the American West. Surrounded by history, art, and the enduring stories of the past, she developed an early fascination with literature, creativity, and the ideas that continue to shape cultures across generations.

After completing her education at Loreto Academy in Ireland, she studied music at University College Cork before turning her attention to writing. Her interests have long crossed the boundaries between literature, history, art, music, philosophy, and theology—subjects that continue to influence both her fiction and her literary research.

Bucchianeri is the author of The Gadfly Saga, including 'Brushstrokes of a Gadfly' and 'Vocation of a Gadfly', as well as several works of literary and historical scholarship, including the two-volume 'Faust: My Soul Be Damned for the World'. Whether writing novels or exploring the lives and works of figures such as Goethe and Handel, and other influential voices from literature and music, she is drawn to stories that examine creativity, authenticity, moral courage, and the search for truth.

A lifelong lover of books, she believes the best stories entertain the imagination while inviting readers to think a little more deeply about the world they inhabit.

Now living in Fátima, Portugal, Bucchianeri continues to write while finding inspiration in the rich history, art, and spiritual heritage of her adopted home. She hopes her work will encourage readers not only to enjoy a good story, but also to look a little more closely at the ideas, people, and questions that continue to shape our own.
