Volatile State: Iran in the Nuclear Age

Following a historic agreement between Western powers and Iran regarding the Iranian nuclear program, the future of the Middle East has become even more uncertain. The new geopolitical landscape in the region will allow a nuclear Iran to flex its military, economic, and ideological muscles with the assistance of Russia and China, bringing Iran closer than ever to becoming a power with the prestige and influence to guide the region's political course. Meanwhile, American foreign policy in the Middle East has been marked by inconsistencies, including differing strategies implemented in the Iran-Iraq war, the civil war in Syria, the emergence of ISIS, and the chaos in Yemen and Libya. In Volatile Iran in the Nuclear Age, global affairs analyst David Oualaalou considers the future of international relations among the United States, China, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Russia, and other nations engaged in the region and provides a fresh perspective on the impact a nuclear Iran will have across the globe. To negotiate rapidly changing global power structures, the United States must reevaluate its Middle East strategy, and Volatile State offers a compelling and insightful path forward.
