2003 N & M Press reprint of 1931 original Edition . SB. 321pp , 26 b&w illustrations. This book is for the serious student of German arms and their use. It is a complete training manual from 1931 (H.Dv 240) and covers all arms training in the use of the rifle (the Kar. 98k), the machine gun (the MG 08/15 and the MG 13) together with grenade, ammunition and sniping training. As all German training was based on field operations, every part of the book is involved in teaching the use of the weapons in the field, so there are no parade ground drills here. The book also includes pistol training. What is of equal importance to the text is the illustrative material provided. This includes a series of pictorial plates showing methods of firing the rifle and the machine gun in battle, and the MG 08/15 plates are of particular importance. The German Army at this time was still free of Hitler and his Nazis, but engaging in the last war - the war in which it introduced infiltration tactics and the machine gun group as an attacking force. The emphasis throughout the book is the importance of the machine gun, supported by well-trained riflemen, and the spirit of aggression that had to be part of every soldier's life in the next war. Although the weapons were to change in the mid-1930s, the ethos of this training continued, to produce the German Army that swept through Poland and then the West in 1939 and 1940.(GERMAN LANGUAGE).…
