[Probable publication date: 18 September 1989.] 55pp. Green soft cover. Clean text pages. "Wolfwatching" was Hughes' 14th collection of poetry - he digs deeply into his own childhood and his family history, as well as writing about nature's violence and the meaning he finds in it. Included in the collection is the poem "The Black Rhino" written for the purpose of raising funds to save this endangered animal. The Library Journal considered reading Wolfwatching was "like visiting a zoo envisioned by Hieronymus Bosch: we're caught between fright and fascination". He was married to the American poet Sylvia Plath until her death in 1963. Ted Hughes is considered one of England's finest modern poets - winning the Whitbread Book of the Year in two consecutive years for his last published collections of poetry, Tales from Ovid (1997) and Birthday Letters (1998). Birthday Letters also won the T.S. Eliot Prize for Poetry in 1998. He was awarded the Queen's Gold Medal for Poetry in 1974; became the Poet Laureate from 1984, and in 1998 he was appointed to the Order of Merit. The hardcover edition is now out of print.
