When man first walked the earth it was devoid of artificial light or machinery and there was a belief in the supernatural. With civilization came science and man believed everything could be explained and if it could not be explained then it didn’t exist. Despite modern civilization’s collective disbelief in things that go bump in the night, the monsters are there. The fabric between dimensions can be opened and things that are supposed to stay where they are venture beyond their boundaries and into our own. Fortunately, the universe is balanced and where there are monsters they are offset by those who hunt them. There are those among the human race with the ability to sense the opening of ways between dimensions. These men and women are drawn to the openings and the monsters that pass through them and are known as the Walkers. Shaman, wizard, sorceress, witch and warlock are the fictional names used to describe the Walkers who guard the ways and keep the monsters at bay. The name is ancient, stemming from the earliest days when the only means of finding the monsters was by foot. In those early days Walkers were treated with respect, given shelter and food as they passed from one encampment of humans to the next. They would share their adventures and the creatures they turned back. Nowadays, the Walkers and the monsters they face are considered myths but mankind’s delusional disbelief doesn’t negate their reality. Walker Dent, the hero of this tale, is over a thousand years old. He has out lived all those he loves but his daughter and the magical shewolf he will only refer to as wolf. He questions his life, culling through his memories, trying to understand what it was he did to deserve his fate. This story of Walker Dent is taken from the first of his many journals and captures events from his childhood, to his expulsion from the Guild and ending with the birth of his daughter, Annie. She and the shewolf now walk eternally by his side but those adventures are for another time.
