Ever wonder why bad things happen to good people? Well the family in the present story is having similar thoughts. In traditional families, the man has been looked upon as being the protector. Therefore, it benefits him to have the ability to keep the wolf away from the door. And Sergio is still trying to recover from the bottom falling out of his dot.com enterprise. He wants to open a restaurant. Denza, his wife, has just learned that she is slightly pregnant.
An eight year-old daughter, Sala, dreams of an underground chemical lab. And, a seventeen year-old son, Dumas-who maintains that life is lived in 25 year stages-wants to breed horses with his grandfather. These three generations of family encompass the three phases of life. His seventy-one year-old father, Akil, is dealing with prostate concerns and has always been a positive influence in Sergio' life but it is difficult to watch him try to come to terms with Althea's problems. Althea, Sergio's sixty-four year old mother, is dying of AIDS. And the family believes she contacted it from her thirty-one year-old prayer partner, Rev. Gillespie.
Will the family survive its catastrophes or will it come apart at the seams?
