Walt Whitman (1819-1892) is called "America's bard" for his inclusive and ground-breaking poetry, collected in Leaves of Grass. He lived in, recorded in prose and poetry, and relished the tempestuous times of nineteenth-century United States. A few of his most well-known works are "I Sing the Body Electric," "Song of Myself," and "When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloomed."
