Basil is a young mouse living in a humble stable, where baby Jesus has just been born. He cares deeply for his wise grandfather, Saba Sage, a temple mouse who understands human speech and speaks with God. Basil longs to have a strong faith like his grandfather and dreams of one day hearing from God himself.

When Saba Sage reveals that the newborn child is the long-awaited Messiah, Basil’s journey begins. Saba tells Basil he must leave with the shepherds and follow the baby wherever He goes. If Basil sees his grandfather one last time before he departs, he will receive the same special gifts: the ability to understand people and to hear God's voice.

Just as Basil’s new adventure begins, danger strikes. An owl swoops into the stable, but a brave red mouse named Minty saves him. Together, they discover love, courage, and a shared mission: to follow the baby Jesus and raise a family that will serve God.

Amarilys Gacio Rassler is a seven-time Royal Palm Literary award-winning author and speaker who writes and speaks about faith-based topics, spiritual warfare themes, and cultural Cuban subjects. She is the author of Cuban-American, Dancing On The Hyphen, used by Oregon State University for cultural studies, and the book, The Chairs, a Christmas book about angels coming to a town to help a family because of an elderly couple's prayers. Amarilys writes prose and poetry, fiction and nonfiction. Her stories and poems have been published in diverse anthologies. One of her award-winning stories, The Rafters, was read and acted at an improvisation theater. Words from her book, Cuban American, Dancing On The Hyphen, were used in the trailer of an immigration documentary, American Dreams. Amarilys loves Christmas and enjoys writing tales about it in gratitude to the Lord for His love and mercy. She lives in Florida with her husband of fifty-four years and their much-loved Jack Russell terrier, Chipper. Amarilys loves to cook Cuban food.
