This is a Mark Twain short story printed for the first time from materials in UC Berkeley s Mark Twain Papers, issued as Friends of the Bancroft Library Keepsake No. 29 (1981). The keepsake also includes three factual letters to Olivia L. Clemens, the short story The McWilliamses and the Burglar Alarm, and portions of Twain s autobiographical dictation (Apr 10, 1907) related to the Lizzie Wills affair.
