The story continues to unfold in modern day America, where Briana Ackerley lives, oblivious of her dark heritage. Sent away to boarding school after the deaths of her parents, she seldom got to visit her grandparents and younger brother. Then, as a young adult, she returns home. With her dream of living with family finally realized, and with the help of a local contractor, Gareth Oakwood, they convert the family home into a historical bed and breakfast. After the inn opens, strange events with no explanations begin to occur in and around the inn. When a guest goes missing, Briana remembers a childhood nightmare. With the reading of her mother's journal, it also becomes evident that she herself is destined to become drawn deeper into the dark family secret, just as every Ackerley female before her. Deciphering old family books, in time to stop the demon before he becomes too powerful, becomes paramount. In comparing notes, descriptions and events both past and present, she begins to speculate about the identity of the evil that seems hell bent on revenge. Due to their location in New Jersey, and aware of the legend about the Jersey Devil, similarities with the her families' past and the Leed's legend begin to add up.
