Warriors Of The Rio Grande; The History of Maverick County in WWII

During our research for this book, we discovered that many veterans never talked about their experiences in the war when they were younger. Not only did WWII have a lasting effect on the soldier, but it affected the community as a whole . . . every community in the United States was affected, but this is about our community in South Texas. As a member of the "Baby Boomer" generation of Eagle Pass, I grew up knowing many of the veterans mentioned in this book. I never knew that the Postmaster, teacher, or bar owner, that I knew most of my life, were actually a POW camp survivor, a Navy medic who was forced to amputate the leg of a battle buddy, or a war hero. It is our duty, as the younger generation, to share these stories of a great and honorable generation that will soon be gone. It is our personal mission to ensure they are never forgotten. This is a journey through time-how Maverick County came to be, stories from its residents, and why WWII began . . . This book tells their stories.
