New York: Colonial Society of America, 1906. 22" x 16" overall; signed, numbered chine-colle artist's proof of a popular etching by noted Delaware artist Robert Shaw; subject is Washington's Headquarters, Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. See scans. Image area 13 1/2" x 9", and with the margins of the fine paper upon the image is printed (i.e., the upper layer of the chine-collee assembly) is 13 3/4" x 9 3/8". That fine-paper marginal area of the chine collee is where the artist's signature and the remarque are located. This entire area is Fine; the broad heavy backing paper shows faint toning and a good deal of edge wear, all at its periphery. Hence near fine overall. See primary scan, which, though done on an oversize scanner, is not all-inclusive of this sizable piece, and even omits a bit of the top of the image. Pencil signed by the artist lower left, with the proof remarque of a similar period homestead at the lower right. Limitation information on reverse (see scan) certifies this as proof # 128 (of 300 total), prepared for Clarence Tucker, and is there pencil-signed by the Society's secretary.
