About the Author
Barbara Shaw McKinney, a life-long resident of Connecticut, lives in Manchester with her two children, Robin and Reed, and her black cocker spaniel, Barnaby. A Master Teacher, Barbara has been employed by the East Hartford Public Schools for more than 25 years. Currently, she is the Instructional Resource Teacher at Goodwin Elementary School, where she coordinates the curriculum and models effective teaching strategies for staff. Throughout her career, Barbara was so impressed by her students passionate curiosity about the great outdoors, that she naturally evolved from an educator into a children s author, dedicated to writing about science and nature. She has presented, in both roles, at the local, state and national levels and has been featured on radio and television broadcasts celebrating literacy. Her book, A Drop Around the World, won The Ben Franklin Award in the Science and Nature category in 1999. Another of her books, Pass the Energy, Please! was named a Skipping Stones Honor Book.
