Watersheds: Mastering Life's Unpredictable Crises. This item is unavailable.Watersheds: Mastering Life's Unpredictable Crises

Tells how to handle illness, accidents, divorce, humiliation, the death of a loved one, change of job or residence, and uncertainty, and shares the advice of those who have encountered these situations

The intrusion of the unexpected sometimes leads us to reframe our self-concept. The Lauers, social scientists associated with United States International University, have interviewed 315 males and 317 females (with an average age of 37) who have experienced such a "reframing" event. From these accounts they derive ten principles for dealing with crises by transforming them into opportunities for conscious redirection. This is not a case book; hundreds of too-brief anecdotes follow one another relentlessly, giving no sense of what allowed an individual to master a life passage. However, the book may provide some solace and inspiration for those experiencing upheaval. For larger self-help collections.William Abrams, Portland State Univ. Lib., Ore.
