Reviews
PreSchool-K?"Wave high,/ wave low,/ I think it's time,/we gotta go." As a brother, sister, and their dog, who looks like Spuds from the beer commercial, leave for and attend a birthday party, rhyming text lists various body parts that can be used to wave goodbye. Mixed- media drawings, reminiscent of 1930s basal readers, depict children of various ethnic backgrounds demonstrating the movements described in the rather inane text. Not a necessary purchase.?Virginia Opocensky, formerly at Lincoln City Libraries, NE

"Wave your elbows, wave your toes./ Wave your tongue, and wave your nose." Not just for hands anymore, waving is a way to get the whole body moving in this cheerful if slight volume. Rather than waving hello on arriving at a birthday party, a group of children "wave" their knees, in a high-stepping, high-spirited gesture, while others wave their ears (using fingers), wave their hair (girls swing their braids and ponytails), wave their bellies and derrieres, in a rollicking birthday dance. Newcomer Williams uses watercolor, pastel, pencil and gouache to create warm but otherwise workmanlike scenes of racially diverse, rosy-cheeked revelers. Reid's simple, sing-song verse, on the other hand, will tempt kids to jump up and join right in. Ages 1-5.
