Way Leads On To Way Paths to Employment for People with Intellectual Disability

Over the course of the past several decades, the field of intellectual and developmental disabilities (ID/DD) has made steady progress from a system that segregated people in institutions to one that supports individuals in progressively smaller and more personalized settings. People with ID/DD are now more present in their communities, have formed self-advocacy organizations, are increasingly making choices about the basic building blocks of their lives, and are more likely to be included in regular classrooms. This is clearly a progression to celebrate, however there is still one major aspiration for people with ID/DD that is yet to be achieved meaningful, competitive employment in the community. This book addresses where we are as a country in meeting this persistent challenge. Since 1876, the American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (AAIDD) has been providing worldwide leadership in the field of disabilities. AAIDD is the oldest and largest interdisciplinary organization of professionals and citizens concerned about intellectual and developmental disabilities.
