Reviews: Kindergarten-Grade 3?A very basic introduction to the subject. Casey gives fairly clear explanations of seasons, wind, precipitation, and clouds, but includes no mention of weather maps, fronts, lightning, or meteorology. Much of the information is simplified, but not inaccurate. The role of wind and air temperature in world weather conditions, for example, is neatly explained in a general way, without introducing terms such as jet streams or trade winds. However, the text is awkward at times and often takes a pedantic tone. A couple of easy activities are included. Many of the attractive, full-color photographs nicely complement the presentation and clarify the concepts; others, e.g., those showing children experiencing different types of weather, are merely decorative. The Bergers' How's the Weather (Ideals, 1993) is a slightly more engaging title for this age group, and Seymour Simon's Weather (Morrow, 1993) is a much more exciting and thorough overview for somewhat older children.?Steven Engelfried, West Linn Public Library, OR
