The Weathercock; Or, The Difference Between Faith And Sight. (Transl.). With A Preface On Personal Assurance, By The Translator by César Henri A. Malan. This English translation presents a 19th-century French tract in which Malan argues that true peace with God comes from faith in Christ and the testimony of Scripture, rather than from introspective feelings or the burdens of perceived sins. The Preface discusses the danger of relying on sanctification as a test of acceptance and defends the doctrine of assurance by faith alone. The Weathercock itself is a dialogue between a minister and a seeker, using the weathercock metaphor to teach believers to trust God's promises and the Word instead of their own emotions. It explores justification, adoption, and sanctification as interconnected concepts supported by gospel grace, while addressing persecution, spiritual maturity, and the freedom of Christian faith. The work advocates for a simple, confident faith that yields joy, liberty, and steadfast hope in Christ.
