The Weaver's Gift

young adult fiction fantasy..Thirteen year old Alan Wilson and his dog found what looked like an empty box in a recycle dumpster. It was one of hundreds he’d been hired to unload for a man who’d taken a consignment to sell in his second-hand store. When Alan, and his friend, Ted O’Malley, retrieved the box it started a series of events that changed their lives. The box was not empty and when they finally got it home, Alan could see that it glowed and hummed as it sat in his garage. Ted could not see these things. The dog, a large flat-coated retriever, Streak wouldn’t let anyone get near the box and when Chris, Alan’s father encountered this strange phenomenon it shattered memories of a hidden past. An unknown great-grandfather is discovered, a story that begins before Christ was born, is told, two royal brothers locked in a bloody war, a strange birthmark, and a humble weaver are thrown together in a timeless quest for a treasure more valuable than gold, then life itself. As the story proceeds Robin Dennis, a girl with amazing gifts becomes a pawn in one man’s desperate quest to obtain the contents of the box; one hundred small blue rugs over twenty-five hundred years old. In Ceylon, in 500 AD, the weaver created a magical gift after Buddha visited his town and spoke with him. The weaver’s orders from the holy man were simple; make one hundred rugs, a gift for someone of the weaver’s choosing, and take your dog for protection, as you work. The weaver completes his task and when he presents the rugs to one of the royal brothers it brings three families together today, still embattled over the Weaver’s Gift.
