Web Development Essentials Study Companion is designed to equip aspiring web developers with a comprehensive understanding of both client-side and server-side technologies as you study for the Linux Professional Institute's 030-100 exam.
The book begins by laying a solid foundation in software development concepts, introducing the components of a web application, and explaining how the HTTP protocol and RESTful architecture work together to enable modern web communication. These early chapters are essential for grasping how web applications function as a whole. We then move into a detailed exploration of front-end development, covering the foundational topics of HTML for structuring content, CSS for styling, and JavaScript for creating interactivity. Readers will learn how to use various HTML tags, including semantics and forms, style content using CSS selectors and the box model and manipulate the Document Object Model (DOM) with JavaScript. These chapters emphasize the practical skills necessary to build dynamic, user-friendly interfaces. In the final section, readers are introduced to server-side development using NodeJS. They’ll explore the Express framework for building robust back-end applications and learn how to connect these applications to a SQLite database.
By the end of the book, not only will you have the knowledge and confidence to sit the LPI 030-100 exam but the real-world skills needed to start building full-stack web applications from the ground up.
You Will Learn to:
- Understand the core architecture of web applications, including software development principles, HTTP protocol, and RESTful APIs.
- Build and structure web pages using HTML, including semantic tags, hyperlinks, and forms.
- Style web content effectively using CSS, selectors, and the box model to create visually appealing layouts.
- Develop interactive and dynamic web applications using JavaScript, NodeJS, Express, and integrate with SQLite databases.
This Book is for:
Anyone preparing for the LPI’s 'Web Development Essentials' certification, providing targeted coverage of the required tools and concepts.

**Please note our transit times are from the date of dispatch.** We first started out as “The Paperback Exchange,” a chain of physical bookstores where we would part exchange your beloved books for new stories to transport you to faraway places. However, as shopping started to evolve to online shops and marketplaces, we bid our stores goodbye to become “PBShop.” This transition has only allowed us to blossom as we now ship thousands of titles to book lovers across the globe. We pride ourselves in being a community of local book lovers which allows our passion and devotion to shine in everything we do. In 2020 we not only celebrated our 20th birthday but our 1st birthday as being completely employee owned after becoming an E.O.T in September 2019. We are proud to be different and embrace standing apart on a book mountain by working from a virtual inventory which allows us to provide thousands of books that may be difficult to get for your bookshelf or your studies. Working with a number of different suppliers allows us to explore other avenues such as puzzles, sheet music and even stationery so we really do have something for everyone.
