Web Mining

Web Mining is moving the World Wide Web toward a more useful environment in which users can quickly and easily find the information they need. Web Mining uses document content, hyperlink structure, and usage statistics to assist users in meeting their needed information. This book provides a record of current research and practical applications in Web searching. It includes techniques that will improve the utilization of the Web by the design of Web sites, as well as the design and application of search agents. This book presents research and related applications in a manner that encourages additional work toward improving the reduction of information overflow, which is so common today in Web search results.

Dr. Anthony Scime received the Doctor of Arts in 1997 from George Mason University with an interdisciplinary focus in Information Systems and Education. Currently he is at the Computer Science Department of the State University of New York College at Brockport; where he teaches courses in systems analysis and design, project management, and computer systems organization. Prior to joining academia he spent over 20 years in industry and government applying information systems to solve large-scale problems. He is an Internationally Registered Technology Specialist (IR7) in the fields of Information Systems and Knowledge Management, and has been listed in the International Who’s Who of Information Technology. His research interests include the World Wide Web as an information system and database, information retrieval, knowledge creation and management, decision making from information, and computing education.
