Auf der Vorderseite des Bucheinbandes wird man förmlich überrannt: "Das umfassende Handbuch" steht da, "HTML, RSS, CSS, XML, PHP, JavaScript, Perl, MySQL, SVG, Weblogs, Barrierefreiheit, AJAX" ... klingt ein bisschen viel auf einmal. Ist aber so. Und das ist gut so. Vergleichbar mit diesem Buch ist nur das inzwischen ein wenig in die Jahre gekommene HTML 4.0 Handbuch von Stefan Münz, das einen ebenso umfassende Anspruch hatte. Und ihn ebenso erfüllte. Das Geheimnis ist die strikte Anwendungsorientierung -- erwähne nur, was man braucht um Webseiten zu erstellen und zu gestalten. Was nicht heißt, dass es nicht auch in die Tiefe gehen kann. Kann Lubkowitz nämlich.
Da sich Lubkowitz vornehmlich an Einsteiger wendet, umfasst der Grundlagenteil alle wichtigen Bereiche von Werkzeugen über Grundlagentechniken des Internets bis hin zu Providern und Adressierung. Darauf folgt dann auch gleich der Einstieg in HTML an den dann CSS anschließt. Damit hat man schon die wesentlichen Grundlagen, auf denen der Rest des Buches aufbaut. Nun folgt der dynamische Faktor, ohne den Webseiten heute nicht mehr vorstellbar sind: JavaScript, Perl und PHP und schließlich MySQL als Datenspeicher. Ein eigenes Überkapitel besitzt die dynamische Bildgenerierung mit PHP und Perl. Es folgt ein umfangreicher Teil zu XML: Einführung, RDF/RSS sowie Webservices. Den Abschluss machen Workshops zu Einzel- und Gesamtthemen wie Content Management System, Datenbank, Design, Programmierung und Administration, Newsfeed und Weblogs. Im "Sonstiges"-Kapitel behandelt Lubkowitz dann rechtliche Fragen rund um die Website, Suchmaschinenoptimierung sowie Barrierefreiheit. Im Anhang dann noch die Lösungen der Aufgaben und Fragen, eine Referenztabelle und weiterführende Quellen. Die beiliegende DVD ist gegenüber der vorherigen Auflage erheblich erweitert worden und ergänzt und vergrößert den inhaltlichen Umfang des Buchs ungemein: Sie enthält drei kostenlos OpenBooks von Galileo zu JavaScript, AJAX, Perl und Joomla!, Softwarewerkzeuge zur Website-Erstellung und -Gestaltung, die Code-Beispiele aus dem Buch und die nötige Software zu PHP, Perl und Co. sowie Video-Trainings-Lektionen zu Photoshop Elements 4, Flash 8, TYPO3 und JavaScript.
Okay, das klingt wirlich alles ein bisschen viel -- aber im Gegensatz zu manch anderen Büchern, die nur viel wollen, aber wenig erreichen hat Mark Lubkowitz mit Webseiten programmieren und gestalten die Kurve gekriegt und das Ziel erreicht: Ein umfassendes Werk zur Website-Gestaltung und Programmierung, das den Einstieg mit einem guten Überblick und auch das fortgeschrittene Arbeiten ermöglicht. Erstaunlich und auch in der 3. Auflage ungeschlagen gut! --Wolfgang Treß
