Hardcover. Condition: Used, acceptable. This is the preferred (second) edition published by the C&G Merriam Co. Heavy duty tan cloth cover with a black leather title band and a brown leather title band on spine, standard (not thin) paper, 6" thick, thumb tabs, 1945 copyright, 1949 print date, 3210pp. Overall condition - still functional but quite worn, front and back covers taped to spine with heavy duty black fabric tape, binding split near front of book could be repaired with strong tape, a few pages worn or creased but none missing or ripped, no marks or writing. hardcover. Condition: Used, good. Good+ condition. This is the most desireable (second) editon of the Merriam Webster unabridged dictionary, bound in dark brown leather, red marbled endpapers, printed on India (very thin) paper which reduces its thickness by half to around 3 inches, 3194pp. This is the 1953 version, printed in 1954, Only "good plus" condition due to heavy wear at the top of spine and rubbing mostly on edges of spine, binding very slightly split at page xxxi but not loose, a few of the first India paper pages are wrinkled (as is common), the page with Webster's biography is torn. Gold lettering on spine and front cover is clear and bright, all thumb tab labels are present, clean and with no marks or writing. Overall a fully functional copy with a couple of defects. Hardcover. Condition: Used, very good. 2nd. This is the very desirable 2nd edition of the G. C. Meriam Company unabridged Webster's dictionary, this version of the dictionary is in 3 volumes, published in 1954, printed in 1957, bound in dark red leather-like cloth with bright gold lettering on the spine and front cover, 3194pp + "Reference History of the United States and Canada" (146pp) + "Index to Classified Illustrations" (105pp). CONDITION: Overall very nice (VG+). Cover has slight loss of color on the corners and edges due to general wear and a few very minor surface scratches; there is a name/address written inside the front cover of volume 1 otherwise the interiors are clean and unmarked; no thumb tabs are missing; each volume has a very slight binding split - volume 1 after the copyright page, volume 2 at page 1055, and volume 3 at the first blank page at the end of the book - these are very minor and do not affect using the book. Gorgeous rich brown full leather cover with bright gold lettering on spine and front cover, 2nd edition, 1953 copyright date and print date, red marbled endpapers, published by G&C Merriam, edited by Neilson, Knott and Carhart, 3194pp, very thin India paper edition (so book is 3.5" thick rather than 6"), insruction sheet that came with the dictionary "How to care for your Unabridged Merriam-Webster" is taped to the second (blank) page. CONDITION: Book cover is just about like new with the slightest (barely visible) scuffing, first 25 India paper pages are wrinkled (as is often the case with this very thin paper) resulting in 1/4" or so of the edge of these pages sticking out beyond the rest of the pages and getting a little ragged from wear, "J" thumb tab label partly missing. No marks or writing.
