Item description from seller

[1981] Dark green hardcover bound in genuine leather, frontispiece, 327 pages, including section titled Sources of Quotations. THIS IS NOT THE TRADE BOOK, A FACSIMILE, COMPOSITE OR SIMULATED LEATHER. THIS IS THE 1981 GENUINE LEATHER WITH GILT FINISHES EDITION PUBLISHED BY EASTON PRESS. Illustrator: R.J. Holden. Genuine leather binding features gilt designs and lettering, gorgeous accents of 22kt. gold - a hallmark of fine bookmaking. Four raised ridges on spine. This binding was hand selected from individually tanned hides. Textured and shaded, acid-neutral paper won't turn yellow over time. Pages are Smyth-sewn into the binding for permanence (not glued like ordinary books). Endpapers are beautiful satin moiré, specially dyed for the publisher. Edges gilded on three sides to enhance the book's elegance. Satin ribbon page marker bound-in binding. Condition: Small bump/chip on the lower right corner at the foot of the spine; faint scuffs/rubbing to gilt edges, else overall Near Fine condition. [Some online book sellers offer books as New or Fine, even though their books were read. This book was never read, saved as a collectible by a book collector of leather-bound books.] This is a transcendental book by Henry David Thoreau. It is a flight from those aspects of a materialistic society that tend to enslave men and women's free spirit. It's also the quest for a harmonious relationship with nature that will make for the fullest expansion of the Self. A wonderful, classic book that is pure Thoreau. Leather-bound and collectible. Note: We are a well-established, well-respected, ethical book dealer in business since 1991. We describe the condition of our books thoroughly and honestly, so you'll know exactly what you will be receiving when you order. We ship promptly.

Store description

We are a well-established, well-respected book dealer who is professional, honest, and ethical in our business dealings. We tend to describe each book in a reserved, conservative manner, rather than oversell a book or sidestep the responsibility of addressing its flaws. Book club editions and library books along with books without dustjackets (if they came with dustjackets) are pointed out in our descriptions. We describe our books in detail, pointing out the precise condition of each book based on our opinion. It's your assurance that the book we describe is as close as possible to the book you will receive. In business since 1991, we typically have the highest ratings on major web sites. It will be a pleasure to serve you. R. Siedlecki R. Siedlecki Vintage Books
