Many people concerned with health attempt to change their habits drastically within a short period of time and therefore fail to sustain a heart-healthy lifestyle. Moser's plan aims to help readers adapt habits over a year's time, thereby enhancing the chances of success. The first part of the book outlines cardiac risk factors and explains common cardiovascular diseases. The bulk of the text comprises a week-by-week plan to change habits for healthier living. While the premise is good, in some weeks little concrete advice is offered. Also, the author's arguments about whether, for instance, there is a critical need to lower cholesterol levels or blood pressure below established norms will raise medical eyebrows.
