Synopsis
Are you experiencing the full weight and measure of the pleasure of God in your life? If we’ll be honest—most of us would answer that question with, “Nope.” That is why we started WAAWG. Weekends Almost Alone With God were born out of the biblical examples of Abraham, Moses, Jacob, Jesus and others. The concept is pretty simple; take a small cadre of men into the wilderness (or women into a more comfortable retreat center), set them up alone for 8-10 hours a day, and then bring them back to a roaring campfire, good camp coffee, steaks and some excellent man-time around that campfire. That is a very simple explanation of WAAWG. We believe this wild idea: If we could get a man alone with God for a few hours over a weekend; let him read the Word; let him take a nap or two; let him listen to his own heart and the sounds of rushing water; let him open his heart to the King who is passionately wild about him—and then let's see what God might say to that man. It is simply beyond description. This is a guidebook for a WAAWG experience. It is full of spiritual insights and also practical exercises that help you gain a greater sense of God’s love & His purpose in your life.
About the Author
Phil Floyd is a native Texan who was raised in the Sonoran desert in Van Horn, Texas. He experienced a supernatural encounter with Jesus Christ early one morning in 1977 due to the intervention of a Christian girlfriend. It shocked him and changed him deeply. After a year of wandering around trying to figure out what happened to him that early morning, on a motorcycle ride through the Big Bend National Park—he fully submitted to Jesus Christ as his King. He was ordained into ministry in 1984 in Rio Rancho, New Mexico and has been involved in full time, part time and voluntary ministry for 30 years. He has been a key leader in three church plants in California and Colorado. He is a self-described “Tent-Making Pastor” who is a Managing Partner for an employee benefits and retirement planning firm in Parker, Colorado and is the former Chairman-of-Elders at Southeast Christian Church, Parker. Phil is dynamic, challenging, funny and engaging. His speaking style is genuine and transparent with a hint of self-deprecating humor. He is a thought provoking leader of men in a day when men are seeking heart-felt, masculine leadership. He ministers only to men—having little of value to offer women—except encouraging them to let their men be men (and even that gets him the evil eye sometimes). Lory Floyd, his wife since 1982, leads women's book studies in their home throughout the year and facilitates WAAWG (Women Almost Alone with God) retreats. Those are held in retreat centers; no campfires and no bugs! Phil's hobbies include backpacking, shooting sports, golf, wood-working and tinkering on his motorcycle. He has been married for over 30 years. They have one 20 something son, who joined his father on a cross country, 4,500 mile, 12 state, 2 country motorcycle ride the summer of his high school Senior trip and Epic Manhood commencement. Hunter attends Colorado Mesa University and is studying nursing. Phil, aka "Petro" is honored to be a patchholder with Soldiers for Jesus, MC – worldwide. Phil regularly speaks at men's conferences, men's retreats, men's ski retreats, cigar bars and biker bars regarding the power of Jesus Christ in our culture.
