The Weight of Staying Alive

Rett Reed isn’t looking for attention.
He isn’t trying to be dramatic.
He’s just tired.

Tired of pretending he’s okay.
Tired of carrying questions he can’t answer.
Tired of feeling like the world would spin just fine without him in it.

When Rett meets Liz — bold, sarcastic, and quietly fighting a battle of her own — he begins to see that maybe survival isn’t about strength. Maybe it’s about connection. Maybe it’s about who holds the rope when you feel like letting go.

As friendships deepen and truths surface, Rett is forced to confront the one thing he’s avoided for far too long: the real weight he’s been carrying.

The Weight of Staying Alive is a deeply emotional young adult novel about loneliness, invisible battles, chosen family, and the fragile courage it takes to remain. Raw and honest, this story reminds us that sometimes the bravest thing you can do… is stay.

Perfect for readers who connected with emotionally driven YA that explores mental health, grief, hope, and the power of being tethered to someone when the darkness feels loudest.
