"The West: An American Experience is a stunning visual document of the American West from 1859 to 1900. The photographs of this monumental collection, painstakingly collected as glass negatives and restored by modern technology, sensitively expose minuscule bits of human existence. A hitherto-obscured picture emerges, one that tells the story of the unheralded people who conquered the prairies, quite unaware that they were effecting a major transformation in American history.
