No one can really know what will prove sustainable in thirty years—and that is precisely why we need a plurality of building practices and ongoing conversations about them. The large-scale exhibition WEtransFORM in Bonn provides plenty of inspiration for both. As part of its thematic year on ecological transformation, the Bundeskunsthalle is showcasing outstanding projects in sustainable architecture and urban development from across Europe. This companion book to the exhibition conveys key insights, tells personal stories, and encourages readers to get involved in building a more sustainable world. Our shared goal: to reduce resource consumption.

Niemand kann mit Gewissheit sagen, was sich in dreißig Jahren tatsächlich als nachhaltig erwiesen haben wird. Gerade deshalb braucht es eine Pluralität von baulichen Praktiken und die fortwährende Diskussion darüber. Für beides bietet die große Ausstellung WEtransFORM in Bonn reichlich Inspiration. Im Rahmen ihres Themenjahrs zur ökologischen Transformation versammelt die Bundeskunsthalle vorbildliche Projekte nachhaltiger Architektur und Stadtentwicklung in Europa. Das Begleitbuch vermittelt die Kernbotschaften der Ausstellung, erzählt individuelle Geschichten und ermutigt zu eigenem Engagement. Das gemeinsame Ziel: den Ressourcenverbrauch reduzieren.

Dr. Eva Kraus has been the director of the Bundeskunsthalle since August 2020. She previously served as artistic director and managing director of the Neues Museum―State Museum for Art and Design in Nuremberg, founded the gallery Steinle Contemporary in Munich, and led the Friedrich Kiesler Foundation in Vienna.

Dr. Sven Sappelt is a curator at the Bundeskunsthalle. He studied cultural studies and aesthetic practice and holds a PhD in philosophy. His work focuses on art, culture, and urbanism, with an emphasis on transdisciplinary connections.
