What Is an Appendectomy?: Helping a Child You Know Understand an Appendectomy (Child Core Education Books)

This book is for children and caregivers to learn together about appendicitis and an appendectomy. It serves as a simple, kid-friendly introduction to a complex experience. Whether your child is currently undergoing evaluation for an appendectomy or has recently been through the experience, this book provides interactive tools to support their understanding, processing, and coping.

Help a child understand the “why” behind an appendectomy by learning what the appendix is and how it can become sick. The story walks through what a kid might experience as doctors and nurses gather information to understand what is happening inside their body, and offers a general, developmentally appropriate explanation of the steps involved in helping their body feel better.

This book includes supplemental activities, prompts, and resources to further enrich engagement and understanding. Access additional information through the QR code found within the book, or through childcorefamilysupport.com/resources/appendectomy/
