What Your Local Department Store Doesn't Want You To Know

Shopping is more than a pastime-it's a lifestyle, a release, and for many, an obsession. In What Your Local Department Store Doesn't Want You to Know, Basheerah Simon pulls back the curtain on the retail world to expose the hidden truths behind bargains, returns, and the endless cycle of spending.

Department stores are not going to place signs on clothing that say "SALE: USED CLOTHING." Yet many of the items shoppers purchase may have been tried on countless times, returned, and placed right back on the sales floor. This eye-opening book explores the realities behind the shopping experience and challenges readers to think differently about what they buy and why they buy it.

With honesty and insight, Basheerah Simon reveals how marketing, emotions, and consumer habits influence spending decisions. More than just a book about shopping, it is a conversation about awareness, self-control, and understanding the true cost behind the thrill of a bargain.

Basheerah Simon began her writing journey with a published poem titled "A Place Called Hell". After stepping away from writing for a time, she served in the military as a finance specialist before continuing her education at The Ohio State University, where she earned a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration with a major in International Marketing while working in retail. She later became part of Corporate America and went on to earn her Master's degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Healthcare.
