Jackson - a colonel in the British army - discusses the scientific endeavours that may be undertaken by traveller's abroad. He provides a section on 'how to map a country', discusses analysis of mineral water, collecting information about earthquakes, and modes of collecting and preserving plant, animal and mineral samples, alongside a great many other topics.With six pages of advertisements at the start of the work. Lacking the preliminary advertisement that should appear prior to the title page. Rebound in quarter morocco, with marbled paper covered boards and endpapers renewed. Externally, exceptionally smart, with a touch of rubbing to spine head. One contents leaf detached and loosely inserted. Otherwise, firmly bound.
