Timothy D. Kanold, PhD, is an award-winning educator, author, and consultant and national thought leader in mathematics. He is former director of mathematics and science and served as superintendent of Adlai E. Stevenson High School District 125, a model professional learning community (PLC) district in Lincolnshire, Illinois.

Dr. Kanold is committed to equity and excellence for students, faculty, and school administrators. He conducts highly motivational professional development leadership seminars worldwide with a focus on turning school vision into realized action that creates greater equity for students through the effective delivery of the PLC process by faculty and administrators.

He is a past president of the National Council of Supervisors of Mathematics (NCSM) and coauthor of several best-selling mathematics textbooks over several decades. Dr. Kanold has authored or coauthored thirteen books on K-12 mathematics and school leadership since 2011, including the 2018 Gold Medal IPPY Award-winning and best-selling book HEART! He also has served on writing commissions for the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) and has authored numerous articles and chapters on school leadership and development for education publications since 2006.

Diane J. Briars, PhD, a mathematics education consultant, is president of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. She was mathematics director of Pittsburgh Public Schools for 20 years. Under her leadership, Pittsburgh schools made significant progress in increasing student achievement through standards-based curricula, instruction, and assessment. She is past president of the National Council of Supervisors of Mathematics and codirector of the Algebra Intensification Project. Dr. Briars began her career as a secondary mathematics teacher.

Dr. Briars has been a member of many committees, including the National Commission on Mathematics and Science Teaching for the 21st Century. She has served in leadership roles for various national organizations, including the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, the College Board, and the National Science Foundation.

She earned a PhD in mathematics education, an MS, and a BS in mathematics from Northwestern University.

Francis (Skip) Fennell, PhD, is the L. Stanley Bowlsbey Professor of Education and Graduate and Professional Studies at McDaniel College in Maryland. A mathematics educator who has experience as a classroom teacher, principal, and supervisor of instruction, he is a past president of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM), and the Association of Mathematics Teacher Education (AMTE). Dr. Fennell has served as a member of the writing groups for the Principles and Standards for School Mathematics (NCTM, 2000), the Curriculum Focal Points (NCTM, 2006), and the Common Core State Standards (CCSSO, 2010).

Widely published in professional journals and textbooks related to elementary and middle-grade mathematics education, Dr. Fennell has also authored chapters in yearbooks and resource books. In addition, he has played key leadership roles for the Research Council for Mathematics Learning, Mathematical Sciences Education Board, National Science Foundation, Maryland Mathematics Commission, United States National Commission for Mathematics Instruction, and Association for Mathematics Teacher Educators. Dr. Fennell has served on the National Mathematics Advisory Panel, chairing the Conceptual Knowledge and Skills Task Group.
