What Is Social Work?: Context and Perspectives

The book is written for student social workers who are beginning to develop their skills and understanding of the subject in order to meet the requirements for practice, and for people considering a career in social work or social care. It will also assist students undertaking a range of social and health care courses in further education such as nurses, occupational therapists and other health care professionals.

Nigel Horner is Head of the Social Work, Social Policy and Human Services Division at Nottingham Trent University, and Programme Leader for Social Work. He began working in a London Borough Children's Home in 1972, before studying Sociology at Durham University. After a period as a Community Worker, he qualified in Social Work from Glasgow University in 1980, and thereafter worked in Mental Health, Child Guidance, Fostering and Youth Offending settings.
