What Sustains Me: Seven therapists write about what sustains them as human beings

What Sustains Me is a collection of personal essays by seven therapists who explore what gives them a sense of meaning and purpose and keeps them going through crises. Each author takes us into the intimate process of making sense of their experiences as unique human beings.

Here are the authors, in alphabetical order of their first names:

Al Pesso was the co-founder of PBSP (Pesso Boyden System Psychomotor), an interactional, body-based therapy that enables people to recreate past experiences to compensate for emotional deficits earlier in life.

Barnaby B. Barratt, PhD, DHS, is a psychoanalyst and somatic psychologist in Johannesburg, South Africa. He is Past President of the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists.

Dr. Erica Goodstone’s life’s work is about revealing the simple secret to healing and creating love that endures. She wrote Love Me, Touch Me, Heal Me and the novel Love in the Blizzard of Life.

Gunilla Blomqvist is known in Sweden as the "grand old lady" of body psychotherapy, specializing in psychosomatic illness. She was trained as a Jungian psychoanalyst in Zurich and is also an artist and poet.

Ifat Eckstein is a therapist in Israel. In her workshops, she draws inspiration from Judaism, Buddhism, the philosophy behind Focusing, and Indigenous traditions to foster a felt awareness of our interconnectedness,

Inge Sengelmann integrates her training in trauma-informed psychotherapies and yoga to help people embody their lives in a fulfilling way. She wrote It's Time to EAT: Embody, Awaken & Transform our Relationship with Food, Body & Self.

Jill van der Aa-Shand, born in New Zealand, has lived in the Netherlands since 1972. She has been a teacher, theatre director, body psychotherapist, and General Secretary of the European Association for Body Psychotherapy.
