When Fortune Knocks

In this poignant tale of parallel lives, Milan Gotcher weaves together the stories of Damian Frost at two pivotal moments in his life: as a high school freshman finding his place on the football team, and years later as a substitute English teacher struggling to make a difference in his students' lives.

Young Damian navigates the complexities of high school alongside his loyal friends Michael, Jared, and Theresa, while discovering his passion for football despite being overshadowed by his talented older brother. Meanwhile, Mr. Frost faces the challenges of managing a classroom full of disinterested teenagers, particularly the defiant star quarterback Barrett Greer—a student with surprising connections to Damian's past.

As the narratives intertwine, the novel explores how our formative years shape who we become, the importance of seizing opportunities, and the lasting impact of mentorship. Through loss, disappointment, and unexpected second chances, Damian learns that life's path is rarely straight, but always worth the journey.

"When fortune knocks at the door, answer it. Don't waste the opportunities that come your way. Life can be over in an instant, and I'd love to hear that you two are making the most of yours." — Mr. Anderson

A moving exploration of friendship, purpose, and the courage to follow one's calling even when the road ahead seems uncertain.
