When Love Is Angry

'For better or for worse' aren't the words most people focus on when they're saying their wedding vows. And those weren't the words Maurice and Ruth thought about until years later when Ruth was diagnosed with Bipolar II Depression. It was then their vows were tested, and they found out exactly what they agreed to when they said, "I do." In When Love Is Angry: A Memoir From the Other Side of Mental Illness, Maurice and Ruth share their story of pain, frustration and misunderstanding, but also triumph and restoration. Their willingness to turn to God in the 'for worse' part brought them to 'for better' and turned their story of mental illness to one of overcoming that which is seemingly impossible and discovering purpose from painful places.

There are two types of people in life: those who express words better verbally and those who express words better written. Maurice L. Griffin is the former. It showed early on in his life-as a B/C student in English, he did what he had to do to get through school and college. But he knew the importance of communication (words can create and or take life, along with everything in between). So much so that this was his major in college-no, not the written form, but verbal expression, studying and eventually starting a career in media. This verbal form has kept him employed for over twenty-five years as a television photographer at a local news station. When Maurice is not shooting video and interviewing people though, you can find him either exercising at his local gym, or in the kitchen cooking for his family. From the latter was born a passion to create his own barbecue sauce: a sweet, tomato-based, 'Kansas City Style' barbecue sauce called Jena's BBQ & Baked Bean Sauce. Jena's is currently available online and in few specialty stores in the Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina area. A Michigan native, Maurice has been married to Ruth for over 22 years. They reside in North Carolina and have four adult children.

Ruth E. Griffin began telling stories at a young age, first with pictures, then with words. Though she always considered herself an artist first, Ruth has been writing since grade school. She penned her first book as a teenager and has continued writing since then.Ruth is now the award-winning author of several books, which range in subject from non-fiction and memoir to romance and fantasy. Her books are available at all major online bookstores.She has a Substack publication, Ruth Writes, where she has begun serializing her fictional novels. She is the founder of Studio Griffin, LLC, a graphic design firm, which partners with self-published authors to help bring their books to life. Ruth is also a cohost of Authors Up, a podcast that provides a platform for new, established and aspiring authors to share their work.A New Jersey native, Ruth now resides in North Carolina with her husband. They are parents to four adult children.
