When We Were Rain

When We Were Rain is a journey into the soft-weathered places of memory—those corners of childhood and adolescence where light lingers, laughter echoes, and the heart learns its earliest vocabularies of wonder, longing, and loss.

In these pages, Lora Dickens gathers the fragments of youth like scattered raindrops on an open palm. Each poem returns to a moment once lived and almost forgotten—barefoot summers, whispered secrets, rusted swings, unfinished letters, first glances, first heartbreaks.

Moments that slipped through time,
yet stayed.

This collection moves through the innocence of early days, the tremors of first encounters, the ache of growing pains, the tender reckonings of change, and the luminous quiet of reflection.

It is a book for anyone who has ever felt time tug gently at their sleeve.

A book for those who still hear echoes when they pass the places they once called home.

A book for the ones who remember how it felt to be held by a season,
by a friendship,
by a fleeting, unforgettable hour.

Through lyrical storytelling and intimate imagery, the poems invite readers to revisit the landscapes of their own becoming—riversides and rooftops, playgrounds and porches, rainstorms and bedrooms where young hearts first learned how to hope, how to break, and how to begin again.

Here, nostalgia is not a longing backwards but a soft illumination of the present.

Here, memory is a companion.

A witness.

A quiet keeper of who we have been.

When We Were Rain reminds us that the past is never as distant as it seems. It drifts beside us like weather—shaping us, softening us, teaching us how to love what was while still stepping gently into what remains.

A book for anyone who carries their younger self tenderly inside them.

A book for anyone who remembers.
