He is an emeritus professor at Northern Michigan University, where he served as head of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology. He is the author or coauthor of numerous works on rape, child abuse, intimate partner violence, toxic romantic relationships, youth suicide, and bullying. He has appeared on ?The Oprah Winfrey Show?, 20/20, and many other national and regional television programs, and has also served as an expert witness in litigation involving violence in schools. He currently resides in Marquette, Michigan.
