Army Captain John Mooney, Jr., M.D., returns from World War II a heroic surgeon, highly decorated for his bravery and the wounds he received saving soldiers in fierce combat all across Europe. One desperate night in a cheap, dirty motel, they almost die from convulsions trying to detox each other from their uncontrollable compulsions. An ambulance gets them to a hospital in time. The physician begins signing himself in and out of mental institutions while his wife becomes addicted to electric shock therapy from the highs she gets from the injections of Sodium Pentothal. On the verge of losing his surgical skills, his lucrative medical practice and their three young sons, John Mooney is sent to Federal prison on drug felony charges for writing illegal prescriptions for narcotics. There behind bars he finds the miracle of recovery and redemption . . . the solution for himself, his wife and the thousands of others like themselves they would go on to save.

About the Author

William G. Borchert is an Emmy-nominated screenwriter and author who lives in Little River, SC with his wife, Bernadette. A former feature writer for newspapers, magazines and radio, Bill wrote the highly-acclaimed Warner Brothers/Hallmark movie ''My Name Is Bill W.'' starring James Garner and James Woods and the Entertainment One/Hallmark movie, ''When Love Is Not Enough'' starring Winona Ryder and Barry Pepper. He was a partner at Artists Entertainment Complex that produced ''Serpico'' and ''Dog Day Afternoon,'' both starring Al Pacino. In addition to his current book, When Two Loves Collide, Bill has written The Skyline Is a Promise, The Lois Wilson Story: When Love Is Not Enough, 50 Miracles That Changed Lives, Sought Through Prayer and Meditation, and 1,000 Years of Sobriety. The father of nine children and 21 grandchildren, the author speaks extensively before college audiences, medical and health organizations and recovery groups.
