Everyone knows that the elementals can't leave their element. Mermaids stay in the water, fire salamanders in the hearth, and the sylphs keep to the air. The few remaining earth elementals that haven't been turned to stones or trees keep to the forest and hide from humans. For nearly a century, elemental sights have been scarce on most of the Continent. The only place on the Continent where elementals are commonplace is the country of Laulao.

Laulao has long been a safe haven for the elementals, and the royal twins Felicity and Edward have kept that tradition alive. It helps, of course, that Felicity has a touch of water magic and Edward a touch of air magic. Together they have ruled Laulao peacefully ever since their uncle, the most powerful fire mage on the Continent, disappeared without a trace ten years ago.
